Funeral Directive
When you're gone, someone's going to have to make decisions about your bag of flesh. This makes sure those decisions are yours and not someone you’ve never met. A Funeral Directive tells your loved ones exactly what you want; from burial to cremation to that Viking ship sendoff you’ve been dreaming about.
What It Does
Lets you spell out your final wishes clearly and legally;
Designates who’s in charge of carrying them out;
Prevents family fights and second-guessing.
What It Doesn’t Do
Control how your estate is distributed; this is not a will;
Cover organ donation (that’s a separate form);
Make someone do it who refuses; choose your rep wisely.
Who Needs to Sign
You, but if it’s part of your Will, it must be witnessed by two people.
Does It Need to Be Notarized in Michigan?
Nope. But if you want to make sure it gets taken seriously without question, notarize it or attach it to your estate plan and medical documents. Make copies and tell people where to find it.
Bottom Line
You don’t get to make decisions after you die, but this does. Make it easy for the people you love by telling them exactly what you want and who’s in charge.
